Free Sheet Music

Where to Find the Album - Updated

A quick update for you, Positivemusicanddownloads.com now has the album up on their website. You can purchase the physical CD as well as digital downloads there. You can also still order over the phone at 1-888-792-5113.

Also, BYU Bookstore should have the album in stock by the end of the week. If you see the album somewhere I don't have listed, let me know and I'll add it to the list.

Yay! I finally have purchase information for you. Positivemusicanddownloads.com is now taking phone orders for the album.

You can order the album by calling: 1-888-792-5113. They tell me the price is $16.95 and shipping and handling is included for free during the holidays. If you are in Utah, I think there may also be sales tax.

You should be able to order the album online next week as well, but they are still a bit behind with the launching of their website.

The album should also be in bookstores by Thanksgiving.

If you want a copy right away, Positive Music and Downloads is your best bet. Downloads and physical CDs will go on sale when they launch on November 3rd, 2008. Here is the link (which won't work until they launch):

Positive Music and Downloads is an especially good option for those outside of Utah as they said they will be including shipping and handling in the cost of the CD.

Michael McLean

I had the opportunity to attend a songwriting workshop by Michael McLean last week. What a speaker he was! He was very personable and gave some great tips and insights on songwriting. I spoke with him after the workshop and he was so helpful with some questions I had. What a great guy! Turns out he was mission companions with Roger Hoffman (who produced the children's vocals on my album). Such a small world!

One Step Closer

The proof for the album insert came in for approval this week. My hubby drove to Murray and picked it up for me (what a guy!). If you don't know what a proof is, (I'll admit it, I had no idea) I pasted pictures below. I'm so pleased with how it turned out! Barry Hansen did a fantastic job on the design. My only real worry through the whole approval process was when Barry told me I actually had to return the proof back to the printer in tact. (i.e. in one piece with no crayola crayon scribbles, footprints, smudges from little hands, etc.) We had some near misses, but in the end the proof made it back to the printer safe and sound. Whew!

Q&A: Can I Use Your Music In Primary?

I've had several questions about using my music in primary so I thought now would be a good time to talk about this. Here is the official church policy on using original children's music in primary -- straight from the good folks in Salt Lake City:

May we use original songs in Primary?

"The Children's Songbook is the basic resource for Primary music. Hymns from the hymnbook and songs from the Friend are also appropriate. Occasionally, patriotic or holiday songs that are suitable for Sunday and for the children's ages are also appropriate. The use of any other music in Primary should be approved by local priesthood leaders" ("Primary," section 5 of the Church Handbook of Instructions, Book 2, 236).

I love the songs in the Children's Songbook! When appropriate, I also think it's fun to sing new songs in primary as well. My album is an independent project and is not affiliated with the LDS church so you would need to follow the above guidelines before using it in primary.

For those that are interested, I will be publishing the sheet music for all the songs on the album. I'll post details on where and when you will be able to find it, but it will most likely be after the official release of the album.

Quick Update

Just wanted to post a quick update on where things are at. My album is at the printer. I'm expecting to see the proof on Monday. Yay!

My album will be distributed by yourldsneighborhood.com (the distributor that handled the release of the 2008 EFY CD). I'll have release details soon, but it's looking like we'll have an end of month release. More to come soon!

Wow, I can't believe it. It's done. Finished. Complete. Greg and Steve really went the extra mile for me. I love it. I've posted some of the songs on my player. I hope you love it too! I'll post the revised release details soon.

Mixes Coming In!

Mixes have started trickling in - six so far. Oh, how I love them! I burned them to a disc yesterday and went down to The Guitar Store in Lubbock. I found a friendly looking salesman and asked if I could hear the disc on their best sound system. He was every bit as friendly as he looked and slipped my disc into this massive thing:

The room was packed with all sorts of speakers and lights for sale, they even had the little thingies that make mist.
"Do you want to hear any other tracks?" He said, after the first one had played.
"Do you mind if I hear them all?" I said.
He smiled. "Sure, go ahead."
And so I sat there in the dark by myself, grinning from ear to ear, listening to my songs fill the room. There were lights flashing, mist blowing . . . it was a moment straight out of the movies or something!

I can't wait to share them with all of you - soon!

Revised Release Date

I'm sorry to have to tell you this. (Believe me, it truly pains me more than it will you.) But it's just going to take a little bit longer to finish up the album than originally planned. I'll post a revised release date as soon as I know, but it's looking like it will be in October some time. We just needed a little more time to make it extra special for all of you!

Proof!

Well, here it is. Proof for the many doubters that I can actually be a little crafty (if absolutely necessary!). Unfortunately, these pictures are all that remain of my efforts. My masterpiece was pulverized by the sweet little creature sitting next to it shortly after these pictures were taken.

Note: the beads at the top are supposed to resemble the angel Moroni. They were rearranged somehow. I'm pretty sure I know who was responsible for this!

The Dreaded Photo Shoot . . .

was not so dreadful after all! After a string of hair mishaps and scheduling conflicts I finally got my picture taken for the album. Gaylene Erwin of GE Photography did a great job on them for me. She made the whole process quite painless and even braved hords of mosquitos to get me some pictures with a little green in them (no small feat in Lubbock!). Release date! Release date! Drum roll please . . . . . .

September 30th, 2008!

To celebrate the release I'll be doing a few drawings (or whatever else my busy little brain concocts between now and then) so stay tuned.

Also in the works are release parties/events in Utah (tentatively planned for mid-October) and Lubbock, TX. I'll post more details when I have them.

I'll also be posting the final versions of some of the songs on my player. (Hopefully by the 15th, but possibly sooner.)

Demos

I've taken the demos from my album down for now. The next time I post them - they'll be done! Finished! Yay!

In honor of my uncle and cousin, I added an arrangement of God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again that I wrote several years ago.

Back Home

I arrived back home from Utah tonight. The funeral service for my uncle and my cousin was beautiful. There were humorous moments, as family members recalled favorite memories, as well as deeply touching moments. I was reminded often that families can be together forever. I can truly say that I left very inspired by the people they were and the lives they lived, and determined to become more like them and the Savior. It was a sad day, but as Elder Daniel L. Jones of the Fifth Quorum of the Seventy mentioned in his concluding remarks, there was also a sweet peace there because of the people that they were.
